7 Fantastic Cinema Releases to See This Christmas

Christmas really is one of the best times of the year to head to the cinema. Plenty of free time on your hands and what better way to enjoy it than seeing a good movie with your family and friends.

If you pick out a decent location, then why not head for some festive shopping afterwards and make a day of it. We at The Sharpe are going to count down seven of the very best cinema releases coming out this Christmas and New Year.

1. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle

This one took a lot of people by surprise, a remake of the 1995 comedy with the legenday Robin Williams. Many critics expressed their opinions early on, stating that there was no need to try and upstage the original. We however at The Sharpe, are beyond excited to see it! Jumanji is a classic film which every child loves to see at Christmas time.

The cast alone is another reason so check out the movie, some really great actors such as Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart and Jack Black, promise to keep us gripping to our seats. It’s also a handy opportunity for fans of the original movie to now introduce it to their children. Coming to a cinema near you just before New Years, you really don’t want to miss out on this adventure.

2. Star Wars: The Last Jedi

Star wars has always been a hit amongst the fantasy and adventure fans and now there is another installment coming our way this December. Full of star ships, planets and quests, these movies always leave you wanting more at the end.

That’s why there is so many of them, duh! Imagine, you could binge all 7 previous films over Christmas and then jump right into the new one. A binge to end all binges, well we are definitely game ball with that one! Make sure to hit the cinema this Christmas to enjoy more adventures with Rey, Finn and all the old favourites.

3. Insidious: The Last Key

Christmas can also be a time where you would rather be scared out of your seat than scared by how much you spent on presents! This movie is a must see for all horror lovers out there. The final chapter in a series of Insidious movies that have been getting great reviews over the past few years.

Original Director James Wan is on production duties this time around so you can be sure that part 4 will be as thrilling as it’s predecessors. This time around Dr. Elise Rainier is looking into the haunting of her own home but you will have to go to the cinema in January to find out what happens next!

4. The Commuter

In this action packed thriller, Liam Neeson plays an insurance salesman on his daily commute home. However it quickly becomes anything but routine after being contacted by a mysterious stranger.

Bound to whirl you away into a dangerous world, this is a film for anybody looking to get away from their ordinary day to day life and into an action packed world for the day. Vera Ann Farmiga who you may recall from The Conjuring horror movies co-stars alongside Neeson.

5. The Maze Runner: The Death Cure

The maze runner is from a series of books that are filled with fantasy and adventure. This is the perfect film for young adults to watch before they have to head back to school after the holidays.

Full of mystery, questions and a cast of adventurous children, these movies have you afraid to blink. The last part in this franchise promises to be action filled all the way to the end.

6. The Greatest Showman

A musical that celebrates the birth of show business and speaks of a visionary who rose from nothing into a spectacle that becomes a worldwide sensation. Who wouldn’t want to sing along to the creation of musicals themselves? Whether you are a musician yourself or just like a bit of a bop, this is a fantastic film to see with friends.

A great film to go and see on St Stephens Day and let yourself get lost in the musical magic that Hugh Jackman and Zac Efron provide in spades. Start booking those tickets now.

7. The Current War

A history movie filled with drama and Benedict Cumberbatch is coming this January. It is a story about the war of currents between electricity titans Thomas Edison and George Westinghouse, to determine whose electrical system would power the modern world.

This is an interesting topic to be played out in film and definitely worth watching over the winter break. An important reminder of how grateful we should be for everything that electricity gives us every day.
