Surprising someone is a great way to make them smile. Everyone likes positive unexpected surprises. It doesn’t have to be anything too extravagant or fancy. Even just a simple surprise can have an immense affect on someone. Surprising your grandparents or parents with a visit to them is a great way to start. A simple text or call to ask how a loved one is keeping is good if you are genuinely busy at the moment. It doesn’t necessarily have to be someone close to you. Even just surprising a homeless person with a sandwich and a cup of tea will make that person’s day and you will feel a lot better as a person. Treating an old friend you haven’t met up with in a while with lunch is also a great way to surprise. Don’t underestimate how simple things like this can have a great positive impact.

Giving Back

To give back to those less fortunate than you is one of the most rewarding things you can do. Not only are you helping out, you will also feel a lot better about yourself too. It’s proven to boost your self-worth. Volunteer work is a great way to give back. There are plenty of ways of volunteering for your community. Try asking your local charity shops if they need any volunteer workers. If you are sporty, you can volunteer to coach for a local sports club. If you don’t have the time to take up volunteer work, you can do little things such as helping your elderly neighbour with some housework. Giving up some time regularly for someone else is a great simple step towards being a better person. Not only are you doing something good, you would be inspiring those around you to give back too.

Be Honest

It’s time to stop beating around the bush and start being more up front. Honesty is quite rare to come by. At times it may be difficult to tell the truth especially if you’re afraid of hurting someone’s feelings. Try and start by not telling a single lie for a whole day. Then, try for three days and keep going until it becomes lot more natural to tell the truth. That doesn’t mean you should give rude honesty. For example, telling your friend they should burn those ugly jeans isn’t the best way to say it. Instead, tell them exactly what is wrong with their clothes and offer advice. They might be offended at first, but they’ll soon get over it. Being truthful is a big indication of your own thoughts and feelings. People see that you are sincere and will appreciate you for it. You might also find that you’ll get closer to people as being honest allows you to connect with people on a deeper level.

Try and put these steps into practice. As long as you keep these steps up, you’ll grow into an enhanced version of yourself. You will be astonished to find how different your life will be.
