7 Great Causes To Get Behind in 2018
January 21, 2018 (No Comments) by Tahlia Peppard

Looking for a great way to make your 2018 one of the best years yet. Then what better way to make a difference than by dedicating your spare time to help make the world a better place or help people and animals who may struggling.

You never know how your actions may affect someone or something else. And the great thing about this is that it doesn’t have to be limited to Ireland, you can get involved from anywhere. Who knows? This may even be an idea for a late New Year’s resolution.

The Global Fund

The Global Fund

This organisation helps fight HIV and AIDS and brings more awareness to the disease and how to fight it. They have cut annual AIDS-related deaths by nearly half and new infections by 39%. Of 36.7 million people living with HIV, nearly 21 million are on antiretroviral therapy – 11 million through Global Fund-supported programs.

However, the epidemic continues to evolve and The Global Fund could always use more help. You can donate or you can bring more awareness to this disease by helping out at hospitals or shelters where they treat people who suffer from HIV and AIDS.

Mining in Zimbabwe

In 2001 diamonds were first discovered in the Marange area in Eastern Zimbabwe. Since then these diamond fields has been beset by conflict, bloodshed, forced labor and government crackdown. Not only do the local communities see very little of the benefits of this natural resource on their land, they suffer immeasurably as a result.

How can you help, you say. Get in touch with Friends of the Earth and contribute however they may need you to do, whether its signing petitions or writing letters, you can do it from wherever you are.

Stop Bullying

Stop Bullying

This cause helps teach kids how to recognise bullying and how to stand up to it safely. Parents, school staff, and other adults in the community can help kids prevent bullying by talking about it, building a safe school environment, and creating a community-wide bullying prevention strategy. Become one of these people who help children who have been bullied or help build a safe environment for kids.

ISPCA

The ISPCA Inspectors are at the forefront of animal welfare in Ireland. They respond to allegations of cruelty, neglect and abuse and also to aid sick and injured animals. Education is paramount to furthering the ISPCA’s objectives in preventing cruelty and promoting kindness to animals. The ISPCA believes that raising people’s awareness is the best insurance against cruelty to animals in the future.

This is a great cause to get behind in 2018, especially if you love animals and have a passion for helping them. You can donate to the cause here: http://www.ispca.ie/donate/regular_donation/

If you can’t do that, get involved with their campaigns and dedicate time to go and help at the ISPCA.

Helping Kids

Helping Kids

There is so many different causes for helping kids that it’s difficult to choose one, whether it’s helping those who have a disability or listening to dyslexic children read once a week or helping children who just need a bit of extra love.

All you have to do is get behind one child and you will make a difference to their life.

Here are just a few causes concerning kids:

The Hibbs Lupus Trust

I’m sure we all know about this cause and it’s no wonder, it’s really important. Make-A-Wish Ireland has one simple aim – they grant the wishes of children aged between 3 and 17 years living with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy.

ALL of these causes are really great and beneficial to adults, kids and animals. We don’t want to be all preachy but we think that these organisations do amazing things and that being part of something so big can really help people understand the positive impact a single person can have.

And there are other organisations out there as well so if you want to help or make a real positive impact with your spare time then these organisations can always use the extra help.
