Ah, Summer, when everything in life appears brighter and the evenings become just that little bit longer. It’s a known fact that most people are happier in the sunshine and that it can actually change your mood for the better. As the summer is ramping up and days at the beach are becoming more frequent, I think it’s time to take a look at some old school Summer tunes that you should be listening to in 2018.

So get your phones out, your speakers, your barbecues and swimsuits, because these tunes will definitely get you in the mood for Summer!

Summer of ‘69

We’re starting out with a classic one, how could you not listen to this during the Summer? The song was sung and originally recorded by the Canadian singer, Bryan Adams – what a ledge! The single had a strong effect on music charts internationally and although it is 25 years old, it’s a classic and one you can’t help but sing along too.

You Shook Me All Night Long

This song was recorded and released by AC/DC in 1980 and has been a popular song since then; it reached number 35 on the USA’s Hot 100 pop singles chart in 1980 and although that may not seem like much, the song has been featured in many movies and been re-released internationally. If you want a good tune to rock out too, look no further.

Brown Eyed Girl

‘Brown Eyed Girl,’ was a song by Van Morrison, who is Northern Irish singer. It was released in June 1967 and peaked at number 10 on the Billboard Hot 100. The song has remained a staple on classic rock radio and has been covered by many bands over the years.

Waterfalls

This song is very chilled and one that you can relax too. TLC are famous for this song, which was released in 1995 and was part of their second album ‘CrazySexyCool.’ The song tackled issues of the illegal drug tradepromiscuity and HIV/AIDS. With a million-dollar budget, the video was an MTV staple credited for giving the single much of its success. It stayed atop the MTV Video Monitor chart for over a month, making TLC the first act to ever achieve this feat.

Jessie’s Girl

This song was sung by Rick Springfield in 1981 and instantly became popular. The song is about unrequited love and centres on a young man in love with his best friend’s girlfriend. The tune is really catchy and became a number 1 hit and spent 32 weeks on the chart.

Don’t Stop Believing

‘Don’t Stop Believing,’ is a very popular song by the band Journey and was released in 1981. This song has been described as the perfect rock song and anthem and has since been reused in many movies and series and became a song that was mostly related to the hit TV show, ‘Glee.’ This is definitely a good Summer tune!

Flashdance… What a Feeling!

This is a song from the classic movie, ‘Flashdance.’ It was released in 1983 and performed by Irene Cara. It earned a platinum record and stayed number one on the charts for 6 weeks, which means it would be a crime not to include it on your old school summer playlist.

I Wanna Dance with Somebody

Seriously, if you haven’t got this on your playlist, are you really even enjoying Summer? This is sung by Whitney Houston and was part of her second album. It was released in 1987 and was a commercial success. When I hear it, all I want to do is literally dance! If it’s not on your playlist, get on it.

There you have it, just a few tunes to kickstart your Summer playlist. These are the songs you need to get you started!
