Summer is in full swing now and even though we live in a country where the sun is not a regular visitor, a good pair of shades is a must. With so many different brands and styles to choose from most people will buy the first half decent pair they see. But is it worth looking around for a good pair or does it even matter at all when it comes to brands and styles? In this article we look at what you should be looking out for when you choose your next pair of shades.

First and foremost when you are looking for the right sunglasses for you, an important thing to remember is that the main purpose of sunglasses is to protect your eyes from the sun. It’s important to get sunglasses with 100% UV protection. Polarised lenses are good to reduce glare but don’t take the place of UV protection so make sure your eyes are protected by your new shades. A good fit is also important. An ill fitting pair of sunglasses can let UV rays seep onto the skin and into your eyes. Proper protection might cost that bit extra but it’s worth it in the long run because you won’t go blind.

Now that you have a pair of sunglasses that protect your eyes you will want a pair of sunglasses that look good and that you enjoy wearing. Different styles suit different people so it really depends on what you are into but there are a couple of factors that you should keep in mind. The shape and size of your head is a real factor because it will determine what style suits you. If you have a narrow head then aviators probably won’t suit you so it’s all about trying different styles and sizes to see what suits you best. Wayfarer sunglasses are probably the most popular style now partly due to the fact that they are understated and suit most people. This may be a good place to begin if you are in the market for new shades. Smaller and more understated styles seem to be coming back into fashion now which means you should be spoilt for choice. If they do happen to suit you, Aviators are a classic style and by far the most popular of the larger type of sunglasses so you can’t really go wrong with them. It all depends on what you are into.

In regards to the different brands of sunglasses, there is a wide range to choose from. Prices vary wildly depending on which brand you choose so you need to choose carefully if you are planning to spend a good chunk of your cash. Ray-Ban is the most well known brand and while most people buy them for the little brand name on the corner, they are a fantastic maker of sunglasses and have a huge variety of styles to choose from. Be warned that they are not cheap though so if you are not planning on parting with much of your cash then best avoid looking at this brand because you will probably see a pair of sunglasses you really like but can’t afford and it will only annoy you. You can get a good pair of sunglasses without paying through the nose and most department stores and large chemists will have good selections, Debenhams in particular have a good range starting from €20. You can of course go to somewhere like Specsavers and get fitted for a pair either if that’s your thing. No matter where you shop or what style you go for make sure you are protected and that you get a pair that you like and that suit you and your style. You may have to wear them on a dull day to show them off but at least you will feel stylish doing it.
