The Best Carpool Karaoke We Have Seen So Far
January 23, 2017 (No Comments) by Annabel Hynes

2016 was many things, and not all of them good. What it did have going for it however was some truly brilliant music – and the Carpool Karaoke segment of James Corden’s Late Late Show put this into perspective, with musical guests that belt their songs proudly while driving alongside James on his commute to work. Who were the best (and loudest) of the bunch?

Nick Jonas and Demi Lovato

With conversation veering from Nick’s many dating exploits to the origin of DNCE’s song ‘Cake by the Ocean’, this outing seemed to have it all. James, Nick and Demi even start busking in the middle of an LA street, using buckets in lieu of drums and handing around a hat for loose change; a far cry from what these Disney stars are likely used to.

Justin Bieber (Part 3)

After two very successful and very viral videos with Justin, James brings him back for a brief interval following the 2016 Grammy Awards and preceding his next Late Late Show episode. Who better to apply moisturiser and sing Bruno Mars with you than the Biebs? These two are basically peas in a superstar pod right now.

Adele

This British singer has had some spectacular hits in the past few years, and we get to listen to them at their full volume and power in Adele’s carpool karaoke. Next to the stunning renditions of ‘Hello’ and ‘Someone Like You’, we get to hear her unique laugh as well, which is almost even better. That, and some humiliating but hysterical anecdotes involving fans.

Sia

The enigmatic and wildly eclectic singer of ‘Chandelier’ joins James in singing, giggling about aliens and talking about her excessive headgear. It’s not often we get some degree of mystery and intrigue in the pop world, and Sia speaks about her choice to remain faceless in a very exposed world. Plus, the harmonising in this one is unparalleled.

Lady Gaga

There’s road rage, rapping and role play in this explosive instalment with Lady Gaga herself. If you’ve ever wondered about the writing process behind ‘Bad Romance’ or how the pop singer would fare in a ‘Fast and Furious’ environment, this video is for you. Who knew Gaga was such an obsessive collector of Michael Jackson’s clothes, or that James would look so good in a meat dress?

Jennifer Lopez

The argument of the century: J-Lo or Jennifer? This video explores that and more as James and the beloved performer discuss insuring one’s rear end, risky romance and singing in Spanish. Further in there’s some dodgy dancing, and of course the iconic prank-texting of Leonardo DiCaprio.

Red Hot Chili Peppers

One backseat driver is pretty annoying – four is almost unbearable. Unless they’re the Red Hot Chili Peppers I guess. James and his brand new best friends sing songs from a West-End production and a song written while high on marijuana, and from there it devolves into madness. Think wrestling on a stranger’s lawn and getting shirtless just for the sake of it.

Bruno Mars

Never has a contemporary singer released so many bangers in such a short amount of time. James and Bruno revel in his many hits in the midst of talking Bruno’s origins and trying on absurd hats in honour of swag. It’s also fun and a little disturbing to dissect the lyrics of Bruno’s catchiest songs. Would you catch an actual grenade for someone?
