What a weekend for Irish sport that was, we watched the Irish women’s Hockey team land a 2nd place finish at the world finals in England and claim a silver medal. Then the FAI CP team took home a bronze for their 3rd place win at the 2018 IFCPF European Championships in Holland. It was 9 years ago when Emmet Switzer entered the board room of the FAI, in Abbotstown, to meet Packie Bonner of the Football Association of Ireland and Peter Doyle of the Leinster Football Association. They met that day to discuss potential opportunities between minifootball, known then as 5 a side, and the FAI. During the meeting, Peter slid a thick document across the table to Emmet, which turned out to be the general association rules.
