The Best Of The January Transfer Window So Far
By Evan Coughlan January 12, 2018 (No)
Over the past couple of years, the January transfer window has lost some of its charm. Even Sky Sports don’t really seem to care that much about it until Deadline Day itself. However, the January transfer window can really change a side’s season for the better, or for the worse. A team can end up selling their best player to a rival club, Fernando Torres to Chelsea comes to mind here, but in fairness his best days were behind him! Or you could end up buying a player who completely transforms the fortunes of your team, the likes of Luis Suárez, Gabriel Jesus, Gary Cahill… the list goes on. So what clubs have splashed […]
Which Premier League Side Will Go Furthest in the 2017-18 Champions League?
By Evan Coughlan December 5, 2017 (No)
About eight years ago, English teams were the belle of the ball in the Champions League. For a five year period an English team featured in every Champions League final, and semi-finals were regularly contested between English sides. However, in the last few years that dominance has somewhat deserted English teams, with the only English side reaching the quarter finals last season being Leicester City. This year however, the English sides have been on somewhat of a roll in Europe’s elite competition with dominant performances from the likes of Man City and Tottenham impressing fans, and making pundits sit up and take note. Working off the assumption that all five […]
What Does it Mean to Play Attractive Football?
By Phil Bourke September 22, 2017 (No)
I’m a Liverpool fan, and as a Liverpool fan I want them to play attractive football and I want them to win games. However, I’m not the stereotypical fan that thinks this will be our year, that Klopp can do no wrong and, because of our history, we deserve something today. Re-read that last paragraph, does anything stand out as odd to you? “I want Liverpool to play attractive football and I want them to win games”, contains two oddities in my mind. Firstly, what is “attractive football”? Surely, winning football matches is attractive. Attractive Football – Pick Your Favourite The ball on the ground, starting with the keeper, moving […]
The 5 Best Bets for the 2017/18 Premier League Season
By Adam Kenny August 9, 2017 (No)
Well, that was a long summer! With no World Cup or Euros to help pass the time, it feels like an eternity since Chelsea lifted the Premier League title, with John Terry bidding us an emotional farewell. Every cloud though, and all the free time has given me the chance to find a few bets for next season. Some bankers, some flyers and some somewhere in between. For what it’s worth, I’m a Man United fan. That shouldn’t be a factor when you’re having a bet though – you should bet with your head and not with your heart. Just ask any Liverpool fan who’s been backing them to win […]
Who and What Liverpool Need This Summer
By Dean Fitzgerald June 25, 2017 (No)
After a somewhat tumultuous season, Liverpool ultimately achieved their prime aim of qualifying for the Champions League. While it is true that they failed in seriously challenging for any of the domestic competitions (apart from a semi-final appearance in the EFL Cup), Champions League qualification should be enough to satisfy the fanbase for now. However, if Jürgen Klopp’s charges are interested in winning silverware next season, there is a lot of work still to be done. In terms of targets, Champions League football next season is a major attraction, which may swing a player’s decision in the Merseyside direction. Quality Looking at the current squad for the season just gone […]
The Premier League Flop Team of The Year
By Ryan Corry March 3, 2017 (No)
For every single Ibrahimović, Kanté or Gabriel Jesus that gets brought into the Premier League, you’ll also find 4 or 5 Eric Djemba-Djembas or Djimi Traores. The most infamous of all was Ali Dia who blagged his way into the Southampton squad in the ‘90s but nobody here is quite on that level. Here are our top 11 underperformers in the Premier League so far this season. Goalkeeper – Liverpool Before I proceed, yes I will be choosing just one player for every position but when it comes to the Liverpool goalkeeping conundrum, like Jurgen Klopp, I just couldn’t decide who was worse. It’s not often that sections of fans […]
Can an English Club Win the 2017 Champions League
By Evan Coughlan February 14, 2017 (No)
THE CHAMPIONS! Ah the Champions League last 16, the round where the competition finally gets interesting after the somewhat predictable group stage of the tournament. In saying that, one team nobody thought would get this far are the Premier League Champions Leicester City. The Foxes have defied everyone’s expectations (well expect Gary Lineker’s) and have qualified for the last 16 of the competition along with fellow English clubs, and regular visitors to this stage of the competition, Arsenal and Manchester City. While it’s been years since two English sides have contested the Champions League Final, nowadays it’s at least somewhat more likely, but can an English club actually win the Champions League […]
Can Liverpool Win The Title Under Klopp?
By theSharpeUser June 6, 2016 (No)
Apart from the capture of Luis Suarez, there are many observers who believe that Liverpool’s’ capture of Jurgen Klopp will turn out to be the best piece of business they have done in their recent history. Klopp has come to the Premier League with a reputation for being one of the best and most progressive coaches in world football. In fact, apart from Pep Guardiola, Klopp was the most sought after manager in Europe. What Klopp did at Dortmund and more importantly the style which he did it in has seen him gain many admirers in the footballing community. It was seen as a real coup when Liverpool managed to […]
