Ah, music festivals; the favourite pastime of many individuals during the Summer. In today’s article, I’ll be listing a few of the musical festivals that will be happening in Ireland this year and who knows, you may find yourself at one.

Electric Picnic

I had to start off with this one, it’s probably one of the most popular festivals and the tickets sell out super quick. Acts for this year include The 1975, Hozier, Florence and the Machine and many more.

Electric Picnic has been staged since 2004 at Stradbally Hall in Stradbally in County Laois. It has been voted Best Big Festival at each of the last four Irish Festival Awards since they began in 2007.

Forbidden Fruit

Again, this is also one of the more popular festivals to attend. It happened during the June Bank holiday weekend and is a 3-day event. It offers different styles of music as well as art, comedy and plenty of glitter.

This is held at the Royal Hospital grounds in Kilmainham in Dublin. Tickets are still available, so if you’re interested, check them out.

Live at the Marquee

Live at the Marquee is a season of music concerts and other live performance events and takes place in Cork. It takes place over a series of days and offers acts like Nathan Carter and TOTO.

This has taken place every Summer since 2005. Most of the concerts are held in the evenings and tickets for each night are sold separately. All types of music acts will perform, so there is something there for everyone!

Indiependence

This is a festival that takes place in Cork usually during the August Bank Holiday weekend. This year Bastille and Gavin James will be featuring here. There is obviously food and drink available and there are multiple stages across a 52-acre site overlooked by the Galtee Mountains.

The festival features a wide variety of artists as well as comedy, spoken word, a small cinema and other attractions.

Life Festival

Life Festival is an annual Irish music festival held in Belvedere House and Gardens in Westmeath, it caters more towards electronic music and attracts local acts as well as international artists. Life 19 takes place 24–26 May 2019.

It hosts arts activities, street performers including jugglers, magicians and much more. It’s also interesting to note that there is an area where you can mellow out with yoga workshops and reiki available.

Belsonic

This is an outdoor music festival in Belfast and this year will be hosting acts like Stormzy, George Ezra, The Killers, Marshmellow and loads more well-known musicians.

The capacity of the event is 5000 and has hosted many famous acts in previous years, so you know you’re in for a treat with this one. Since 2017, Belsonic has been held in Ormeau Park.

Beatyard

Beatyard is a festival that takes places in Dun Laoghaire Harbour. It usually takes places over the August Bank Holiday weekend. Acts for this year include Grand Master, Jungle, Chvrches and guess what? Beatyard promises many more to be announced.

Tickets are still available, and you can get tickets for various days or for the whole weekend – kids are also welcome to go – so it’s a family-friendly event.

Body and Soul

Body and Soul 2019 takes place from Friday 21 June to Sunday 23 June 2019 in Ballinlough Castle in Westmeath. This year’s acts include The Blaze, Santigold and many different acts including inspirational talks, impromptu spoken-word performances, immersive theatre experiences and unexpected installations.

At Body and Soul, you will also discover a sanctuary available where therapists and masseuses and yoga teachers will be hosting workshops while the beat of the music acts drum in the background.

So, there you have it, 8 Irish music festivals that are all definitely a must.
