6 Gigs You Need To See In Dublin This September

As a massive summer of Irish festivals draws to a close, we’re checking out some of the biggest gigs in Dublin this month. If you thought that everything musical ended with Electric Picnic this past weekend, you would be sadly mistaken!

With the kids back to school, you’ll have plenty of time to plan out an epic night of music in the capital. If you can’t find a babysitter, bring them with you, a pair of headphones may be advised too! There’s heaps of talent makings it’s way to our shores this September so let’s kick back, relax and see who’s coming to town!

1. Against the Current

Against the current are an American pop rock band based in New York who formed in 2011. Currently the group consists of lead vocalist Chrissy Costanza, guitarist Dan Gow and drummer Will Ferri.

Coming to the Academy on the 15th of September their act will be supported by The Faim. The trio be showcasing work from their new album Past Lives and performing hit singles such as “Almost Forgot”, “Strangers again” and “Personal”.

2. True Tides

True Tides are Irish Indie personified and are a welcome addition to the the Dublin gigging scene. The band formed in December 2017 and consists of 3 brothers from Cork, Cian, Conor and Eoghan. The lads have garnered much attention since releasing their debut single “Higher”. Since then, they have been turning heads with their brand new single “Automatic” which is ridiculously catchy!

The guys are all about giving people a good buzz and some fun to unwind in the hectic world we live in today. Their first headline show will be played at The Sound House. Their debut single will be released in 2019.

3. Clairo

Clairo is an electropop singer originating from Massachusetts. Only twenty years old, Clairo started out early by posting covers and her own music on SoundCloud and YouTube. We’d recommend checking out “Pretty girl” which is a beautifully arrange song of hers.

Clairo’s debut EP which is titled, diary 001, was released in May of this year and well received by critics. Coming to Ireland this September, Clairo will deliver a dreamy night full of laid back tunes to allow you to forget about all your daily troubles.

4. Superorganism

Superorganism are a mixture of synth, art and psychedelic pop who formed in early 2017. Based in London, the group has eight members and started out as a casual recording project with members based across multiple countries. However, as most of the members started living in London they embarked on a musical journey together.

With members from Japan, south Korea, Australia and New Zealand, the group is hugely diverse. Coming to the Academy this month, the band is bound to make you jump out of your seat to dance until your feet will go no more!

5. Ugly Kid Joe

Ugly Kid Joe are an American rock band from Isla Vista California that formed in 1987. To date, Ugly Kid Joe have released four full length albums, two compilation albums and two EP’s.

Their biggest records are “As Ugly as they Wanna be” and “America’s Least Wanted”. With their recent reunion back in 2010, the band have been touring around the world and are well and truly ready to rock in Dublin again. Hurry up and grab your tickets fast as these iconic headbangers will be in massive demand!

6. Mitski

Mitski Miyawaki is a Japanese-American singer and musician. She self-released her first two albums in 2012. Her fifth studio album was just recently released in 2018 called “Be the Cowboy”. Mitski’s music can be described as raw and impulsive, mixing a number of instruments in her albums like classical piano and tasty guitar work.

The songwriter’s heartfelt feelings will have you connecting to her music in special way. Coming to Dublin on the 22nd of September, this is a show that you simply do not want to miss.
