Laughter’s the best medicine; trust me, it’s science. Research examining the effects of laughing has shown that regular bursts of chuckling can benefit our heart health, our mental health and our relationships.
So get rid of those negative-craic people in your life, get out there and have a good laugh!
But I suppose you’re wondering – “where do I go to get my good laugh?”. Well, wonder no more, we at The Sharpe have got you covered.
Synonymous with comedy gigs in Dublin and intimate music shows, Vicar Street in Dublin’s Liberties is a must if you’re planning a comedy night out.
Over the next couple of weeks, Vicar Street will host two of Ireland’s best known and loved comedians – Jason Byrne and PJ Gallagher, as well as a relatively new face to the Irish comedy scene, Enya Martin.
After selling out two shows at the venue already in February, Jason Byrne has added another show on March 3rd.
A main stay on the Irish comedy scene for the past 10 years, Jason’s newest show, “The Man With Three Brains”, has already been praised as the Dubliner’s best show yet and has led to The Times dubbing him as “the outright king of live comedy”. Tickets cost €28 and are available here.
PJ Gallagher of “The Naked Truth” fame PJ Gallagher’s takes his show, “Dickhead: A Brief History of the Irish Willy” (hilarious name by the way), to the Vicar Street stage on February 23rd.
Another Irish comedian who’s been around for years, but yet continues to deliver original, hilarious material, this is a show that you should definitely consider going to. Tickets cost just €25 and you can them here.
Enya Martin, creator of the hugely of the Facebook comedy page, Giz A Laugh, brings her Giz A Laugh Live Comedy Show to the iconic venue on Saturday February 24th.

Fun fact: Tommy Tiernan’s show “Loose” holds the baton for Vicar Street’s longest running performance, with a string of 166 shows. Now there’s a claim to fame for every Meath person out there!
Known as Ireland’s Comedy Powerhouse, a night in the Laughter Lounge is one not to be missed. Go as a group or go alone, you’ll undoubtedly be leaving with a pain in your side from the laughing. Upcoming performances include Jimmy Carr and Michael McIntyre. You really have no reason not to try this place out.
The Laughter Lounge offers packages for groups of 10 or more people, ideal for a corporate nights, birthday celebratations or just a catch-up with friends. Opt for a “slice of pizza and a bottle of beer” or “finger food and drinks”. Neither of which I imagine are too shabby.
Thursday night shows in the Laughter Lounge are dedicated to charity and fundraising events, helping to raise in excess of €1,000 for worthy causes every week. Have a laugh and raise important funds. What’s not to love!
The feast of our patron saint has fallen very nicely this year, with two proceeding days to get you over the celebrations (and hangover). If you’ve nothing planned as of yet, why not head out to the 3 Arena for a night of comedy in aid of Comic Relief.

Funds from the gig go towards a variety of national and international causes. You can do your bit for society and have fun at the same time. Tickets are on sale now and available from Ticketmaster.
If you missed out on Tommy’s record breaking string of gigs in Vicar Street, don’t fret! Over the next few months, Tommy Tiernan is taking to the road with his new show “Under the Influence,” performing at a variety of locations across Leinster, including in his hometown of Navan.

Performing all over the country, Pat Shortt is making it his mission to bring laughter to everyone between now and the beginning of May. Well-known for his entertaining acting roles in Kilnascully, The Guard and Garage, Pat never fails to deliver on the “ting” he does best, making people ROFL (that’s Roll-On-The-Floor-Laughing for anyone who wasn’t in the same teenage text era as me).
Tickets are on sale now from Ticketmaster for this night of madness and mayhem that only Pat Shortt could deliver.
Have you made plans yet for the June Bank Holiday? You may think that’s far away but tickets for Kilkenny Cat Laughs sell out quickly!

A night at a comedy show is often accompanied by a bev or five and a few snacks. But don’t be concerned about the snacks and drinks, laughing burns calories. Just three hours of solid laughing will burn off a pack of ready salted crisps. Or, if you’re one of the few who’s still on a healthy kick, post January, you could just hit up one of Dublin’s fitness classes, your choice!
A marketer, nutritionist, blogger, baker and cook among other random titles. Most often found drinking coffee, stalking dogs or photographing food.
